Society for Creative Anachronism
Otherwise known as the SCA, or a bunch of harmless, historical nuts!
As I mentioned, John, Colleen and I are now members of the SCA and have been attending events. I have some pictures here of us in garb - these pictures are from our first few events. I need to get more pictures - and I need to make more garb!
The three of us are full-blood members of the Black Dragon Horde, a Mongol Household. John Richard does also play in the SCA, but he has chosen not to join the Horde. Of course, at the moment neither Colleen nor John Richard have much time or finances to attend events, not that John and I have much time right now either...
At Spring Crown Lyste, 2005, I received my Award of Arms!! This means I am officially entitled to be called 'Lady' and can carry weapons even when near the Royals.
One of the things I love best about the SCA is the music. An evening spent at a Bardic Circle, listening to stories and songs old and new, is the closest I can get to paradise. In order to share some of that with you, I've borrowed some videos that a lady I know in the Shire of Endewearde has posted on YouTube. These videos are of a singing group calling themselves Leafy Greens & Mutton (don't ask, it's a long story). Three of these singers formed another group, Port o'Call. Go to my SCA Music page to watch these videos and hear their wonderful voices.

You can dress them up, but you can't take them out

John, in a simple everyday tunic and cape that I made for him.

As I've done more research into my persona, my garb has changed slightly. I am Anya Mineshti Demitro - a Romani (gypsy) woman living in Eastern Russia/Mongolia in the mid-1400s. I've learned that the Romani would tend to wear clothing very similar to that of the rest of the populace in the area the lived. They could also wear clothing of people living further away, but this would tend to be out-dated. The Romani women would wear a drape, or semi-sari, over this clothing, and they would always wear something on their head. Usually, they could wear headgear of the locals, but they always had something. So, I've altered my garb to fit. There are more photos of SCA people and activities (not necessarily of us) that I will need to post. (as soon as I find them)
